Firstly apologies to Ivan for the topic of this conversation.

Some of you (Lee H, Matt101, ChrisR to name a few) will remember my 2013 fettle in Kent (the one just after getting the yellow 9er from Cats)

Those that do may remember my friend that came along on his S10, and then came back on his BMW R110S (Silver /Yellow and VERY clean if that helps jog the memory)

He's changing bikes and has offered me first refusal on the beemer. Its a crazy deal that can almost not be turned down.

Questions in my head.
Will I use it? I hardly go out of the bike outside of the daily commute.
Can I afford it? It's German after all, so servicing isn't going to come cheap.
Are they all that? I've read some reviews and they seem positive but having not ridden anything other than a TDM in recent history I'be no clue about "boxers"

If it weren't for the deal being so good and it being a mate I doubt I'd look twice, but he's the only owner and it is in amazing condition.

Here's the bike in question:

I'd say have a ride first, getting back on my Tdm after a test ride always makes my mind up not to get anything else, but I expect others will be along soon to question your sanity!

Buy it! I had a R1100R, great bike, sold it for more than I pay for, only bike I ever made money on.

I'd deffo take a punt on it if the "mate's rate" is well under market price and it's still that tidy, coz you would have just bagged youself a bargain and if after a couple of lengthy ride outs you gel with the bike it's a propper result OR if you can't get on with it you just move it on and a bike that clean and with known history will be sold sharpish this time of year and at a profit, simples !!

Buy it. If the deal is as good as you say its an investment. I doubt it will depreciate any more.

If it was offered to me I would snap it up

If your mate doesn't object to you making some moolaa then go for it.  Chances are you won't use it much and if you do use it for commuting the price will prolly deteriorate.

That said, it might inspire you to get out for a ride more. :)

Plan is to keep it for pleasure only with the occasional commute if the weather is good and the TDM is in for surgery.

The deal is ridiculous and I can't walk away from it.

Appears I'm a two bike man again.

Hi Adam,

I remember that BMW. If you can't get your mate to keep the Beemer and sell you the S10, then it has to be a good deal. It really was a minter and he is very particular about his bikes.

Enjoy.

Ali

So the deal has been done.

Hopefully picking the bike up on Sunday - would have been Saturday, but he's out picking up his brand new Indian Chief Classic (1850cc  :yeyeye:  air cooled v-twin)

Sale fell through.

It was from a close family friend, and he's just too attached to let it go.

It was almost too good to be true, and I have no bad feelings about the whole thing.

It does me I'm still in Ivan's good books...

Exactly my thoughts...

Though I have told him, that if the offer comes up again it'll have to be one of the 2x S10's he has  :hide:

Pity, been looking at a mate's for some time now but want an unbiased review/opinion first.  One from a TDM lover would have been ideal!

Never got to ride it, but all I can say is that he's had it from new, and loves it to pieces (hence why its still in his garage & not mine).

When I've spoken to him about it in the past he said it's a great all-rounder, that is still confortable as a tourer.

While he's had the BM he's also had:

Super Tenere (2x)

ZZR1400

GSX-1100E

Plus some others, and the S10's and the BM are whats still in the garage...
