Silly Question About Throttle

Anyone notice that the throttle seems to have a long travel on the 9er?
I mean that if I keep the wrist - reasonably - low (afaik a safety measure to be able to close throttle and apply the front brake whenever) I need to reposition my grip when I want to go WOT. I got previously used to just applying WOT as needed without a second thought, but without grip repositioning I just don't quite get there on the 9er and occasionally it feels like it was not as powerful as it actually is.
Any thoughts? Pls be gentle, I know it's a silly question.

I noticed this when I first got the bike, I found exactly the same as you.
All I can say is now I operate the throttle completely differently to how I used to. I no longer grip the right handlebar properly. The fingers are kind of round it, but the palm just slides round the throttle. It sounds sketchy typed out but it's actually more controlled than gripping the bar, which leaves you prone to the old pot hole/bump throttle.
I'll pay more attention to my use of it on the way home and type out a better description later
