Being fairly new to TDM ownership I am confused about the letters given to some models. I have a 2000 yellow and silver 850. Does that make it a 4TX?

It do....but to add some confuzzlement I do not think there was a yellow and silver 2000 model, so you mayhaps have a late registered earlier year manufactured TDM!

Have a look under the seat and find the label with the model code, it seems tdm's were prone to sitting around in dealers for a while so don't go by the reg, with that colour scheme it is likely the earlier Mk2, 2000 would be the Mk2A.

I was glad I looked into this as I looked at a silver/yellow 2000 model and looked to find it was a 1997 model, good improvements were made in 1999 so I passed on it and kept looking, that said it was the first time I had a proper look and listen to one (I was buying on a gut feeling) and it proved me right in what I was looking for and the exhaust note had me hooked, now loving my 2000 Mk2A.(which is red so much faster....)

Thank you gents. It's a 4TX4 according to the label. Log book says reg Mar 2000. I've just seen earlier posts on identifying your bike above and see there are loads of different types within each model. Does 4TX4 tell me anything useful? Presumably it's relevant for getting parts.
Fyi I'm now going to ask some stupid questions in the relevant forum about chain slack.
Thanks for taking time to reply.
I bought the bike in a rush without doing any homework and really like it. Something a bit different.

4TX4 is a 1999 model MK2A, must look like this then.

You should have the better carbs, better gearbox, heftier fork tubes, and a fuel gauge.

Have a look here. https://www.tdm-yama...t.org/?page=HST

Almost! Fuel gauge....check. Front mudguard and upper fairing silver. Red lining around TDM logo on tank. Cant see anything on forks to help.
Oh and the word "twin" on tear bodywork is also red.
Sorry when I said tank I meant fairing.

Bought it almost 12 months ago but not used much since at the mo. 28k no service history but lots of MOTs. Braided hoses belly pan hand guards heated grips rear rack scotoiler. Very tidy. Paid £1700. About to get valve clearances done;don't fancy doing it myself. I would post pics but can't work out how!!
