I'm sure this must have come up before, but my forum search efforts have been in vain. I fitted a new PR4 rear on my 900 in April and now the front needs replacing. Looking online, I can only see the 120/70 ZR18 PR in a "GT", which Michelin describe thus: "Pilot Road 4 GT has a stiffer casing with a patented new technology for motorcycle tires [sic] that delivers the stability you need for heavier GT-class bikes". I wouldn't describe the 900 as a heavier GT bike.

So, obvious question; has anyone got this combination of standard PR4 rear and GT front on a 900?  And if so, is all well?

Looks like you'll have to put a 17" on the front Chris, strange that all 18" are GT, cant see anything else either, would of thought you could still find NOS as such !

When I had the gt fitted to my bike I had a long argum....erm discussion with another member on here who insisted that it “didn’t work” on the TDM and should be removed immediately. It worked fine for me.

Cheers Cliff, interesting.

 Hard to believe it's that radical a departure from the standard PR4 that it's dangerous. Did you have a 'normal' PR4 on the rear when the GT was fitted Chris?

I had the Bridgestone 023GT on the front, same issue no 18" in the std version

no problems whatsoever did loads miles like this, you would prob not even notice a GT on the fron when riding .

I would think the issue would be doing it the opposite way round, fitting a std tyre on a heavier bike,

don't think there is any safety issue here, just that the std tyre would ware quicker and prob front would scollop more on a heavier bike,

Michelin recommend them for the TDM so  :dunno:

Been looking at tyres meesen today seen these may give them a go

look a good all round tyre to me

Yes had the standard PR4 on the back Chris. Avon Storm XMs at the moment, I like them.

I had this dilemma a while ago. I needed a full set of tyres and decided on PR4s to be told the front would be a GT. I got my supplier to check with Michelin HQ who said OK. The combo is listed in the fitting catalogue IIRC.

Since then I replaced the rear with a Road5, and recently needed a front to match. My tyre man said there would be a Road5GT in mid-August '19 and I waited, and now have it fitted. These combo's were all checked via M. HQ.

So, PR4 rear + PR4GT front / R5 rear + PR4GT front / R5 rear + R5GT front  combinations are all good to go, in my experience.

For reassurance you could check the Michelin fittings catalogue. The "4" series will probably be cheaper than the "5".

That's reassuring, thanks Steve, I ordered my PR4GT now. Still pretty costly, but if I get another 12k out of it I'll be a happy bunny (assuming the bike makes it to 114k miles!!!).

I've got pr4 rear and pr4 gt frot. It's what Michelin recommend on their site. Only just running them in but they feel fine.
