RTT08 is looming close enough for the long range forecasts to say the weather is going to be OK, although doubtless this will change as we get closer to the dates rolleyes.gif . Now shall I wear my leathers and take my one piece rainsuit in luggage, or shall I wear my goretex textile kit? The textile is fairly cool in hot weather as it has openable vents, but I prefer riding in leathers. But then if it rains I have to put my one-piece on and I hate wearing that. So textile it is. Or maybe leather. Decisions, decisions.

Decisions, decisions.

Oddly enough I'm in the same dilemma. The sticking point (literally) is that I hate dragging my rainsuit on over leathers. ranting.gif
My main challenge is to cut down drastically on the amount of spare clothing (in particular) that I usually take,

  • Day 1 Normal
  • Day 2 Back to front
  • Day 3 Inside out of 1
  • Day 4 Inside out of 2
  • Days 5-8 Repeat with 2nd pair while hanging first pair on bed-end
  • Days 9-12 Swap and repeat.... blink.gif

....and eventually use as firelighters. rolleyes.gif

As any of the snowjokers will agree, you're unlikely to turn up with more luggage than me. rolleyes.gif

I'm keeping my options open and bringing cordura/goretex and a pair of draggin's

I think I should be able to pack everything without needing the side panniers though, couldn't believe the difference in fuel consumption between SnowJoke with panniers and Germany without blink.gif

A hard-earned pound on that? dry.gif

I've at l(e)ast opted on textiles instead of ye olde cowhide, in view of the mixed weather forecast, but am still hedging on changes and layers for the same reason.

The forecast for Ireland, Saturday to Tuesday, is looking 'textile' to me. From Tuesday onwards it's leather weather. Of course, I go home on Tuesday ranting.gif I won't pack my sun block........

Be imaginative - e.g. use the kitchen sink as a spare fuel tank... laugh.gif

As I'm taking a long run at this and setting off tomorrow (as far as Shrewsbury), I'm packed already angel.gif

Once again the thousand little extras have found spaces, encouraged by the scoot's capacity for such. And it wouldn't be a tour without a soddin' great bag on the back, now, would it? rolleyes.gif

Ooooh now -- running boards... disbig.gif

FWIW re final preps, the weather forecast for Kerry is looking likely grey till Tuesday, though opinions differ. It's a changeable part of the world, and for sure we have a great RTT in prospect. clapping.gif So life could be worse - eg check out the long-range guy in the left column of that 2nd linky... wacko.gif evillaff.gif

Another beautiful morning here in Kerry. Up for a run and a swim with the dogs at 6.30 and, lying on my back in the water looking at the blue skies above and the sun shining on the mountains, I cannot understand the weather forecast. Yesterday was beautiful too. Must be the calm before the storm.
