Hi all
My previous bike (Fazer 600) was well known for having poor lighting with only 1 of the 2 lights lit up with the main beam on. There is a well documented fix for this to have both lights on for main and still have the full beam available.
I've searched around but not found anything similar for a TDM 900 - is this fix possible?
Thanks

The common approach is to fit an HID bulb (the H7R has a shield to reduce the risk of dazzling people) or whatever the LED equivalent is.  Also a lot of people fit additional spots.  I have mine mounted on brakcets on the engine mounts and a switch on the dash via a relay to let me have them on with main beam or with dipped beam only.

The Greek approach looks better but a lot more work.

I have a conversion kit that cuts into the full beam from the dipped so that both lights are on all the time and full beam is reduced in power unless you need it. It came from the Netherlands a few years back but I couldn’t find anything about it when I looked yesterday. The bike has passed two or three mots with it fitted.

LED - cheap effective & legal, a direct swap if you ensure the correct focal length.

I fitted one to my dip, and the result was absolutely crap - light everywhere. AFAIK I fitted it correctly.

If you have a proven fitting and item to use I'd appreciate the details to try again.

I had an HID fitted until they were declared non-MOT-able. Shame because it worked perfectly.

HID is OK for MOT  :good:  .. new rules are for beam pattern/scatter not light source and about time too.

Steve dont know what Favs is referencing but have a look at this site to see if it helps, better options than China i think ? they have them made to order possibly.

I use some like these with the mounting ring moved to the correct focal position (ooo errr not 9er speak  ) Need to male a spacer to allow the spring clip to grip the lamp properly. They pass the MOT on the beam pattern machine.

Favs, dablik,

I thank you for the info. I'll ponder and research.

And dig out the HID bulb and spacer. I left the starter units on the bike so it should (ha!) be a simple refit - plus adjust the beam height IIRC. Got the marks on the wall for that.

My LEDs looked like Fav's and I got a spacer recommended by someone. I got exasperated fitting the thing purely by feel and then there was light all over the place. Ran out of patience so I wish you all the best!

PS The revised MOT rules for upgrading with HID or LED are summarised in this article:- https://www.classicb...-lights-the-law

Hmm does look rather complicated getting a fix done, think I'll just stick with the led upgrade to the full beam for now.
Pic shows the same thing done to my Fazer.

I did that when I had a fazer 600, if I'd stuck with the 600 instead of going up to the thou it'd probably still be in the garage beside the TDM as I recon it was more fun to ride than the thou, the thou was a beast for sure but not as chuckaboutable as the 600.
