I've had success using WD40 to get rid of glue residue. Leave it to soak a few mins first.

A little heat helps, hairdryer perhaps, or go easy with heat gun.

There is a product called HG sticker remover. I bought it from my local ironmobgers to remove the residue left by brown packing tape on some Ikea shelving units. They had been taped together for transport and left all the glue when removed. It was brilliant. Cost about a fiver, but I see it is available on ebay for £5.95 delivered.

Lighter fluid in a can is usually naptha and is a good choice for this, but also it's an amazing degreaser and leaves no residue

I always use eucalyptus oil to remove stickers and the residue. Works every time (and smells great).
