Hi guys!

I tried this from a Kombi air filter. Did not work. The paper folds were tighter = respiratory failure. But it has to reduce the amount of folds and increase the space between them. It lacks to review the process.

I tried this from an air filter of a suzuki Yes 125cc. I had to do the seam, with the white foam = bingo. Perfect seal on the air cleaner box. The bike breathed normally. The bolts of the mixture were left in 2 turns. The candles were light brown. I've circled more than 5,000 km. I dismounted to check and the air intakes of the carburetors cleaned. It is filtering well without letting particles pass. Many years ago I did this (foam instead of paper) in two 350cc Hondas (1972/1973). I rode more than 70,000 km with both, without problems.   Sorry, sorry guys. :sorry:  :hide:  We have to surrender to the technology (paper), but  buy from Yamaha in Brazil ...... $$$$$$

In the final assembly, oil was passed in the foam filter

Hi JBX!

Good to know JBX, they have done it before. So I'm not crazy on my own.

First I tried the paper, but I would have to review some items.
The original TDM has 38 quinas or folds of paper, internal view. The folds are farther away from each other. In the Kombi filter, the number of paper folds is larger for the same diameter. We have more paper, occupy the same space. It is more compact. It would require more airflow, or greater suction force. The bike was not breathing. The solution with the paper would be to cut it and adjust the amount of folds. In this way it would be proportional to the original.

So I brushed off the idea and made the foam.

Cheers!

Hi Sid !

I once made a filter from a newspaper... for a vacuum-cleaner !

Not very easy to make one from scratch for a sophisticated bike like the 850... so better have a diy foam-filter.

There was a 9er with foam air filter on the forum some time ago, afair it was from an XTZ1200.

Cheers !

Had to buy the filter kit direct from Australia as I couldn't find them anywhere else.

Fitted in the box with or without airbox top.

Hi to all!

Hi catteeclan

Good solution, straight from the source. Stretch marks increase the area of contact, or even direct the flow more.

Thank you for information.

Thanks for sharing :good:

Cheers!
