21mpg ! That's pretty crap by any measure. Similar to the economy of a 1970's 750 triple 2 stroke iirc.

But when you own a Lamborghini you don't worry about fuel economy. That 21mpg is worth every penny!

My Super Modded TDM has gone to a new home :(

I'm now a carbon whore!

I have a 170 rear tyre instead of 160 plus Staintunes and powercomander.(Sat nav shows 98km/h speedo shows 100km/h) and get 54- 62mpg regulary one up and 46-52mpg two up and camping gear. The bike is riden as it should be to have fun.

Wanted to reach my target 480kms away on a single tankfull on friday, and boy did I! Hit reserve on 458kms, and filled 17.01 liters when there. 3.55l/100kms or 79.5mpg!
There is still a 4.5l left to spending a full tank, and there would still be possible to drive more economically. I did cruise speeds ~70-80kph, but going over quite a few mountains decresed mileage, no doubt. I'd be willing to bet a month's salary I could go 600kms on a tankfull!
Btw, on my way back I hit the throttle and cruised ~100-105kph. Result: mileage reduced to 4.1l/100km or 68.9mpg....

Anyone wanna bet? Do 600km/373mi on a tank?
Btw, I don't say this is the key to a happy motorcycling life....would do better with a 125cc if fuel consumption was the goal.....:-)

The TDM 900 has a rev limiter which kicks in at 9500. I was once told by a Yamaha dealer (and TDM rider) that you shouldn't worry about the redline, that the motor is safe to 9500, that it was just Yamaha being conservative. Dunno how true that is, but I wouldn't be reving my bike out to those extremes, TDM's are about torque not high revs anyway.

The TDM power tails off very rapidly about 8k anyway, with peak power being around 7.5k, so it's better to change gear then to stay in the power band.  Any higher than about 8.5k and you're not really gaining anything IMO.
