I did this a while ago, used a hex socket T-bar ground to fit with a few rounds of leccery tape, didn'r require much grip to stop rod from turning in my case...

A brush shaft gently hammered in to mould the wood into the hex works too but an electric/air impact gun on the 8mm hex on the bottom spins off the bolt in a nanosecond

Hi, I tried the impacter and broom handle yesterday. No joy I'm afraid,that's why I'm after the tool. I'll try and fashion something tonight. If the tool is available though wouldn't mind lining it up just in case.
