Hi

I've my 2002 TDM 900 for one year. Bought it with 66000 kms and it's counting 86000 kms now.
Last year I did a nice 2000 Kms trip to northern Spain and this year 4000 Kms  to Morocco. There are a lot more planned, but the age and the odometer starts to worry me.

Since the clock is running toward 100000 Kms and the years pass by, I've just started to think what bike could be the next one.

The budget is limited, so I could trade it for a Versys 650 or a Vstrom 650 or Tracer 700. No budget for the bigger brothers.

Did anyone made this move that can share the experience?
Smaller engine one one side, newer bike on the other.

With 16 year old and almost 100000 Kms on the clock is this the time to change, or do you think I'm better served with mine?

Thanks for sharing experiences!

BR,
José

Josep, I sold my 3VD at 103,000Km and I see it often, still running well.  The 900 is better built and parts are more available.  The Spanish climate is much kinder to motorcycles [and riders] than in the Reino Unido.  I'm keeping mine.

Keep up the oil changes and maintenance. I have seen instances of 200,000 km on TDM's so you probably have plenty of life left.

Plenty of members bikes on here over the years have gone pat the 100,000 mile mark and still kept on going strong. Wait until you need to before you change and don';t be afraid of the miles. They get better with use. Mine's just over 52k now and barely run in.

I'm just about to complete my first 1,000 miles on my new Tracer 700 and will post a full report soon but I've been very impressed so far and there are some interesting comparisons with my TDM900 riding experiences.

I hàve the MT-07 variant and it has been a great bike. The engine must have design similarities to the TDM because it 'feels' just like it.

Guess it depends if YOU feel the need or not.... Don't blame it on the boike.

My mk1 is just under 100,000 miles and I could hop on tomato and tour. It does everything thats required.

Some peeps get itchy feet sooner than udders I guess but the boike will go on forever if you so desire.

Yeah, the only single reason for scrapping a bike (not including accidents) is need for a new engine, I guess.

All other repairs will be beneficial providing you do continous maintenance. On my bike (25yrs / 112,000kms) only engine, cans, rear brake master and swing bearings are original. All other brake parts, suspension, bearings, downpipes, paint, seat +++ have been swapped/refurbished. Current market value of the bike is some £2,500, indicating that even an engine swap for a used one would pay off.

If you want another bike, well that's another story  :P

There are countless members who change and then regret doing so. Some often go back to a TDM. As long as you keep greasing the bottom suspension linkage it will run forever.

2004 900 - Blue with lots of goodies

2012 900 - Still adding shiny bits. Was black, changed to white and now back to black again.

Yes, but that's an effect of Carpe - not the bike itself. Better have the best forum and a shitty bike than the opposite
