For those that don't connect thier Tomtom to the internet very often, now would be the time to do it, they've just released a software update. Not had a full play yet but there's some potentially usefull stuff like the ability to change one of the buttons on the moving menu.

Oooo, they now have a 3rd party website fr all those usefull additional applications http://www.tomtom.co...third-party.php

Edited by ChrisG, 25 April 2008 - 06:10 pm.

What maps are you using (hit the signal strength indicator then the version button)? When I reconnected connected after the update it said I couldn't use mapshare, and thier website suggested I'd need the next set of maps to be abloe to do it, but then next time I loaded it up it asked me to sign on to mapshare and then updated. I'm on Western Europe v675.1409

Last time I updated my TomTom it trashed the internal memory and it had to have a new circuit board. Took a month to get TomTom to agree to fix it, as they only guarantee the hardware and "if it wont load the software it's obviously a software fault, sir. Please update your software from the web site" ranting.gif

Now the warranty has expired, do I take the risk of the new update?

Thought you'd have been okay provided you backed your TomTom up to your PC first as the new installation suggests.

Do they store anything on thier internal memory or is it all on the SD card? When I got the Western Europe map I bought a 2GB card, copied everything from the old card to the new one via a card reader, then installed the new maps. I tested this update by installing it on my UK card first, and when I put the Western Europe card back in it worked fine without the update.

I think everything is stored on the SD card because I did the same as you also without any problems.

You need to go here to down load and install TomTom Home on your PC as this is the TomTom management program. You'll also see there are user manuals for a whole list of different TomTom devices if you whish to find out more about your device. Then connect your TomTom to its charger and then connect to your PC using the USB cable supplied and select "update" and follow the instructions. Easy as pie tongue.gif
