I'm sure this guy is right but the bad side is you're stressing the crank and gearbox. Somewhere inbetween for me.

I know I am aboot to talk cars but when I bought my Subaru the salesman said there was no need to run it in, just drive it hard from day one and it will perform better as it gets older..........seems to have worked for me.

Am yet to buy a new bike....always get second ones.

Sorry for the car talk.

I live by the "hard" run-in.
although that does need some putting in perspective:
- I always make sure the engine is nice and warm before stepping on its tail
- during run in I do trash it throughout the entire rev range, but I do keep it below the red zone.
- I always take care to vary the rpm's during run-in, so no long highway trips at a constant 4000rpm in 6th.

so far (at 60.000km on the TDM) no problems whatsoever with oil usage or excessive wear. valves are even still within production limits.
I really do not see the point of going easy on a new bike.

I'll let go of my throttle when they pry it from my cold, dead hands...
