Yup, Hombre is spot on.
Not enough slack and you'll hear the output shaft bearing whine. Too much slack and you'll feel the chain backlash when you decellerate.

Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.

50-60mm on a 900. If you ever have a new tyre put on the rear always check they haven’t taken the slack out.
And if you take it for an MOT where they are unfamiliar with the model, they may question it. I had a Yamaha dealer try to give me an advisory on slack chain, until I challenged him to check the spec in a workshop manual. I got a pass and no advisory. Went somewhere new this year and had the handbook in my pocker just in case.

Yup happened to me last MOT and i sat on it, got real tight
