Just got an '96 850.
Previous owner said slow speed running wasn't that great along with weird noise from drive train when running.
That noise was down to a really worn front sprocket and chain so every so often it would catch rather than mesh.
I've changed both sprockets and chain so that should be good.
So on to the slow running - I had a bunch that the tps might not be correct, so ran the test according to the manual and its showing 1 on the rev counter so need to adjust to get it to 4.
BUT how do you get at the fastners with the engine in the frame?? I thought I might be able to take the carbs off and then adjust but that looks just as bad as gettimg to the TPS itself !!
So thought I'd ask the people that know 😁👍

fiddly pig of a job and i bet you struggle to attain 4k, more like 4300rpm may be the final outcome. good luck with it.

engine changed july 2007 on a dyno run it made 79.1BHP / Torque 59.9Had a brief flirtation with a 1999 MKIIa but it blew an exaust valve on the M5 so was sold on to be repaired.

Have you tried using a torx bit, sure someone on here used one in the past.

you need to take the carbs off, had to do it twice and yes, its a pain.
Once done though should be sorted for a while as they don't usually go out
adjust it with the carbs off and tighten down
