Quite a bit on the site re forks but generally pertaining to mk2 and 9r.

 

Who knows if mk1 oem forks were linear, from the little i can see in the Haynes and on ebay it would appear so, i have progressive forks or dual rated forks in mine so now wondering what air gap is required, it's more if i remember for progs, certainly on the 9r and i seem to recall reading, maybe Wilbers mentioned a reduction of 10ml from the fluid capacity, of course that could be bollocks and i aint remembering right.. 

 

Will have a little poke around but any knowledge welcome..

ChrisG might know, or might have posted up about it as I think mine are Hagon progressive.  Could do with knowing myself actually.

Just come from Hagon, they state an Air gap of 150mm, mine felt way to hard when jumping on the handle bars so i pulled a leg today, height was bang on re Haynes at 151mm, i removed 10ml, prolly end up putting a bit back but they feel a bit more normal now... so a difference of only 1ml, not much, maybe the oem are progressive like the 9r ??

TBH I prefer linear springs, always fitted them to my bikes and they feel great.
I'm still on original springs on mine and there's too much settlement when getting on which really defeats the object of progressives anyway.

 

IMHO they just become shorter linear springs.

According to JBX the 3VD springs have a single rate: 7.0 N/mm, and oil is 395 cc, 151mm

I really dont know enough about them to make an informed decision but have heard linear are a better option from many places on the web, these will do for now, i'll start thinking about other mods once the money tree has regrown, but me forks seemed fine today..

I thought the standard ones were progressive, pretty sure they were tighter wound at one end than the other.


1992 Mk1, 76k miles, Hagon springs, MTC exhaust, 4½ gears Gone now :(
2009 900 abs, 42k miles, Yamaha heated grips, double bubble screen, R&G crash bungs, scottoiler, Autocom, 1500 lumen LED spotlights.
