It must have been a combination of bright sunshine and heat. Riders of 2 BMWs gave me a wave when I was stopped at lights.

Nah - they tend to push past at the first sign of a 2" overtake gap
(usual "not all Beemer" riders caveat)

Occasionally Harley riders don't wave, but I think I've never experienced this behaviour from beemers where I live.

Well, I wouldn't call them "brakes", but there was some right hand lever where the brake lever sits on other bikes.
Maybe like the Controls of bikes like this ?
