Well that didnt go as expected.

Took the tdm out for bimble around after the lockdown easing. had a nice 50 odd mile ride round the local back roads of Leicestershire. These bikes are ideal for backlane playing.

iQDMkRW.jpg

Decided to head back so took the scenic route home. I entered a local village which as a 90 deg lh bend. So was slowing down from about 30 mph when the front end just washed away without warning. Down we went with me landing fairly heavily . i got help from a bystander to lift the bike up as my shoulder hurt.   I managed to ride home . luckly its looks like just the plastics have suffered with a few cracks and scrapes.

irToIMO.jpg

But once I got home I started feeling a bit sore. So a trip to A&E was undertaken. Yes as I suspected I have broken my collar bone

So thats me laid up for a few weeks.

i actually think it may have been down to the low revs snatchness these bikes have.  I must learn to trail brake with the back brake more . I now have to decide what colour to do it as the panels i have ordered need a bit of work, I may just go for black

From experience, I advise getting that floating bit back in place or pinned. I had a similar break and a 3 piece collarbone but unfortunately I rolled over in bed and put it out of place while still healing. I didn't go back to hospital and the floating piece has ridden up over the outer piece and set - given me a shoulder and inch shorter than the other one. But is has benefits when a hotel only gives you a thin pillow........................ :pimp:

Another bit of advice - once it has knitted start to lift your arm as early as you can to the extent of lifting it to the top of a door (even a drag arse like me can do that, before any feckker butts in). That avoids the calcified bone starting to adhere to the skin which causes lack of mobility.

I believe my damage was done by the edge of my helmet swinging down and punching out a section of my collar bone.

Get well soon, but you should be glad you broke it as my other half managed to dislocate hers and it took a long screw (oh-er Mrs.) and ages to heal followed by loads of physio, bone breaks are better than ligament/tendon injuries.

Bad luck, still bust collarbones generally heal well, although mine didn't, but that's, I believe, an exception and due to a poor diagnosis at A and E. Get well soon.

When i broke mine they said I was a good candidate for a new experimental program.

I volunteered, and ti turned out to be an evaluation of the possibility to use 3D ultrasound to detect new bone growth (before it shows up via x-ray).  no treatment, no surgery, just sit and let it heal, with a checkup and scan every 4 weeks.

Now have a huge lump where the healing took place and it's been over 18 months to get my muscles working again, but the NHS were very grateful ? :)

900 with better bits. Owes me nothing, Makes me smile
