While doing the 96k service on my 2003 niner, I got to thinking about the longevity of some of the parts on the bike. I've had the bike since it was 3 years old, with just 6,000 miles on the clock and I have never changed any of the following:

  • Tail/brake light bulb.
  • Indicator bulbs.
  • Fork seals.
  • Front wheel bearings.
  • Throttle cable

Pretty impressive I thought, especially the tail light bulb. I ride with it on all the time, that's a lot of hours.

Have you had to replace the generator on yours?  IIRC Mark and Celtic both had their go around about the 100k point.

To even my utter disbelief, I'm still on original front brake pads after almost 33k miles. Further testament to me riding like a Judy!! (No offence Kelpie.!!)

Retired my first 4TX at 112000. It was still on it's factory bulbs, fork seals, all bearings except sprocket carrier, shock, fuel pump, all 3 disks, alternator, reg/rec, coils, never reshimmed, never failed mot, never let me down.
It did have carb diaphragms at 70k and new emulsion tubes at 94k, battery at 11 years.......hopefully the 4TX that replaced it will repeat the performance.
I've been road testing bikes for two years and still can't find anything to replace it....Tracer 700 came closest but it needs to be 800-850 to be a real mile muncher and it just feels fragile overall.....just my two penn'orth. I was planning on the NEC to see if anything floats me boat but f*** it I'm gonna stick with the old girls and mint 'em over winter..

41,500km on my 2000 4tx and it's not had any work done on the engine but I suspect the clutch has a little wear so I'm keeping an eye on it

Fork oil and seals are original and will be done soon and I'll check headset bearings while I'm in at the front end

Other than that most other bits are original bar consumables

Hi Guys!

I bought the bike with 40,000km is 70,000km
Parts exchanged:
1) Tube, Needle and Buoy fittings, 2 throttle diaphragms and 2 carburetor orings.
2) 1 low headlight bulb and one arrow lamp (neglected during maintenance and burned)
3) 1 Speedometer Sensor - Mechanic error during a new tire installation
4) Head grinding - Valve retainers, valve cap trim and valve cap bolt pads - Reason: I fitted the inverted oil filter and there was oil in the lubrication.
5) 01 chain of the valve control shaft - at 40,000km it already gave a sign of end of life
6) pinion shaft seal with 70,000km
7) oil, seals and dust guard, front suspension 70,000km
8) 01 clutch cable
9) 02 batteries
10) Replace the original air filter with a foam air filter
11) 1 fuel pump of Chinese origin - already 3 years ago
12) 5 chocks for regulating the valves
13) transmission ratio (chain, crown and pinion) changed by the previous owner.

Cheers!

76 thousand kms on a 2002 niner, only 6 of those by me but ...

Im amazed it still has the original back shock, I factored in buying a replacement, and while it could be better, it does OK. Most shocks would have been shot a long time ago.

98 version owned approx 12 years. Only done consumables. Headlight bulb, hoping for an improvement, tyres, mulching tubes, battery, chain, sprockets and brake pads.75'000k's+

Gave it some love over the weekend and it is clean as a whistle.

Bearing in mind that I spend more time on gravel than tar seal it's quite astonishing.

Mine's mostly original. Added better bulbs when I bought it in 2005, along with K&N filter. Changed Chain and Sprockets last year at about 50k miles (third set from new). Looking back, Cam chain tensioner changed at 24k, along with recall on TPS. The only other things changed have been consumables. Still on original bulbs except for stop/tail light (blew in Germany in 2012) and one indicator (other than headlamp mentioned above).

2004 Galaxy Blue. Owned since 486 miles.Renthal 755 bars, Bagster tank cover, Oxford heated grips, DL650 hand guards, Double Bubble screen, Scorpion Rad guard, Gel pad insert, HLD undertray, Angry Badger tailtidy,  Michelin Road 5s, Givi E21s, E46 topbox, Ohlins shock and YSS cartridge emulators   Currently not fitted - PC3, Remus Revolutions.
