I just posted the following on a BSA forum, it may be of interest.

I received my copy of the BSA Owners club Star mag. today. The editorial topics were frightening. It is briefly as follows:

NEW
Anti tampering legislation: preventing owners from customising their bikes, or using cheaper (but still approved) after market parts. Bikers will be singled out by the police and stopped for emission checks. All soon to become UK law.

PROPOSED
A ban on filtering through traffic. A ban on motorcycles over 7 years old, in urban areas.

Don't shoot the messenger, It's a wonder I could type, I'm shaking with rage.

I haven't read the explanation yet, but it seems comprehensive.

Yes the europeans really are planning this insane set of measures. Hence the dayglo jacket requirement in France.

Quite why bikes over 7 years old are to be banned from urban areas beats me, but it is being planned for implementation.

The powers that be will not rest until they force us from the road!

It's difficult to know exactly who might be affected as not all EU countries will adopt the policies being proposed. There is also a certain amount of scaremongering or uneducated assumptions being made out there on the www.

For example, making bikers wear a hi vis jacket. Turns out it's not a jacket, it's a 150cm square piece of reflective material. Compulsory in France in 2013 and in Ireland in 2014. Bikers in the UK won't be made to wear them.
And there we all were signing a petition against wearing hi vis jackets.

I'm not saying that the proposed EU legislation won't affect us, but the facts need to be read and understood so that an educated opinion can be given and acted upon. Given the complexity and length of the proposed legislation I for one won't be attempting to make sense of it all.

Of course no-one wants to see bikers freedoms eroded and some of the proposals do seem to be preposterous but you can't make an argument with the government or EU bods that's based on assumptions, you need the facts.

Some info and stuff on the MAG site http://www.mag-uk.org/en/campaigns
