Whats are peoples preferred potions to getting the muckier bits of your bike clean.

My TDM is a year round commuter, and suffers the worse of the British road crud - a number of members can attest to it's "anti-dazzle" coating.

Having done a fair bit of work recently, and still having stained hands I need to offer up a bit more TLC to the bike.

The bike is never going to be showroom condition, but advise welcome on what people use and works...

Cheers in advance.

For the really spoogy, oily bits I use a soft brush and kero, yeah, even a tooth brush. For everything else I just use a decent detergent and hot water. Persil used to be my favourite but you need to rinse thoroughly, it has a little ammonia in it. I also used to use a product called truck clean which was cheap and very effective at removing all but the nastiest of oil build up.

Probably the most effective thing is time, and attention to detail, lol.

I'm also a year round commuter and have a scottoiler which brings it's own cleaning challenges. I've used a lot of products over the year's (usually whatever's on special offer) and use muc-off on the engine and areas with heavy dirt and finish off with autoglym shampoo. SDoc 100 is good but the lack of offers offends my spendthrift nature. For the greasy/cruddy areas near the scottoiler and especially the rear wheel I've been using good old Gunk, seems to get most things off and no apparent damage to any paint or plastics.

Pressure wash for the resilient bits. Elbow Grease (£1 at The Range I believe) and a brush for the rest. I drown the chain in used engine oil every week. Keeps the chain clean but my 9'er is always caked in mucky oil.

FST 52 - made by Scottoiler.

You don't need balls to ride a big bike.
