Not sure we'll get that far Lee, but we're currently sitting on £840 (plus gift aid, which brings us to a stone's throw of £1k). That figure is largely down to the significant generosity by my fellow Carpe members, so thank you all.

Time for another milestone update....
We broke the 200 mile mark today (208) with a nice little 23 mile run over to the outskirts of Beccles and back. Fundraising is currently sitting at £890, so we're both totally blown away.

I've tried riding a race bike, far too squished for my liking. Much prefer the hybrid bikes. Pretty good going there guys.

Thanks Studders. My main bike is a 1995 GT Outpost Trail MTB. The road bike was an after thought and in all honesty, isn't as good to ride as the GT. They're actually very similar in terms of riding position as long as you're not using the drops on the road bike. I setvthem up to be comfortable, with a shorter stem, mounted inverted to raise the bars a bit. By pure chance, checking with a tape measure has them both with a few mm of each other. The steel frame on the GT is much more forgiving on bumpy roads (more flex, I guess) and the wider tyres help too. Weight difference is huge, with the GT a hefty 19kg with rack/bags/water bottle/tools etc and the road bike about 13kg. It's not a light road bike compared to some, but you can feel the difference between the two.

Nice bikes there Trev.
I had a road oriented Specialized hybrid and I've got an old British Eagle Shadow hybrid. The Specialized had carbon forks, skinny tyres, a super swanky frame and weighed a good bit less than the Eagle but I just couldn't get on with it. I could feel every bump and hole on the road, steering was twitchy and I never felt comfortable. The 1980's alloy framed Eagle has Schwalbe Land Cruiser tyres, higher ratio gearing, is much more forgiving and comfortable and is very capable off road. My average speeds were higher on the Specialized but as I wasn't racing on it, I moved it on.

I've just put the Carrera up for sale. It's a decent enough bike, but a little small for me and frankly, not as good as the GT, which rides so much better. There's something about steel frames that just makes them ride well.
Just picked up this little beauty... Cannondale Caad 8 Tiagra. It's a couple of KG lighter than the Carrera, but already has the Brooks saddle and Carradice bag fitted form the Carrera. Took it out for an 11 mile maiden voyage and it's a lot faster than the other two despite it being a windy day here.

You been watching the Tour de France Trev ? Apparently, bikes sales rocket when it's on. That's a cracker of a bike.

Oh dear, you’ll be wearing Lycra and ignoring red lights and cycle lanes before long!
That's a bit harsh mate. i was going to get my lycra mankind dry cleaned and everything.

It was owned by a personal friend of a local bike shop. It also came is a £160 helmet, £90 shoes, co2 inflator and spare gas for the tyres and a host of other stuff. The one and only original owner has given up cycling and bought a....Harley!
We spotted it when we stopped at the bike shop for an ice cream (yes, they do ice cream too) and I had a think about it before going back today to see if it was still there. The bike shop is lovely. Tiny little place in a neighbouring village that's full of thatched cottages and very quaint.
