I have currently chained to the 4tx my bargain basement old Black Beauty, a snip at £250.

attachicon.gif 1F5CF4C5-061A-4279-9320-FEE5B9B5D537.jpeg

I couriered on an XJ600f in Edinburgh for about 18mths, including through the Scottish winter.

100% reliability as I took it from 12,000 to 64,000 miles

I guess yours is the 900 from the chrome indicators, shaft drive ?

I had a similar lower fairing to yours too. I bought it in white and took it to Cupar Bike Paints to get it sprayed candy red to match the rest of the bike. It was impossible to see a difference in paint, the colour, depth, and metallic inclusions were all a perfect match

I was in two minds about running the TDM through the winter, I thought about fitting some suitable tyres and having fun, but the weight puts me off.

My KTM destroyed the output shaft bearing 18 months ago and has sat forlorn ever since, so as it's a light weight I thought I'ld take the opportunity to repair it and fit some fun tyres.

No, not officially, but some supermoto riders have tried them and think they're okay, but I haven't ridden on them yet as it's not MOTd or insured, but should be sorted by the weekend

The rear is a Heidenau K73, i thought I could swap it myself, but it's so stiff I didn't waste my time trying. I think it could run virtually with no air pressure added. It took two guys at the workshop to get it on the rim

They joked i would struggle to get it off on my own too, but,  I have an angle grinder :)

The front isn't quite as rigid but still strong, it's a Heidenau K66 'snowtex' (With a lot of added silica)  . It Doesn't have as much tread depth as some other new lumpy tyres can, but apparently they're great in snow and slush so I thought I'ld stick one on the front and should be fine as I only live five minutes away from the local casualty department ;)

There's a chance of snow over the weekend, but if it doesn't arrive it will have to wait because I have to be in Ireland next week, fingers crossed for a bit of bad weather on my return. I never thought I'ld say that !

MOT passed and on the way home I slipped off the road to see if these tyres worked....yup, that'll do

The tester was happy with it, and had to point out to his trainee to watch out for the suicide  stand, which doesn't lock down, as soon as you move the bike to vertical it's  ripped up by the springs and if you're unlucky , gets you in the shin on it's way up. (Only once so far...)

Now, the TDM is off the road for winter, fully serviced, with the battery on a Favs charger. (Time clock based...)...If I get time I'll look to see  if there's anything in need of attention. Since fitting the Ohlins though it feels great and is enough for me on the windy roads I like.  Still the most reliable and best value bike I bought.

Unfortunately the MOT tester's garage also has a KTM 950 which could be up for sale soon. A great deal of bike. Would be tempting to always nudge it along, and I'm still with six points on my record,  Just a TDM with a new body kit if the wife asks......All in good time :)

Tank sticker because according to my wife, I'm f**king childish. Love lives on !

I have an admission, I might be suffering from bikerholism, current total is 6 (which is one less than last year)

GSX1100 Katana owned for 37 years. GSX750E project owned for 12 years and still not finished, CCM 404E, my TDM 900 (the best allrounder and go to daily bike ) , a recently acquired KTM1090 Adventure and also a new BMW R1250 GS Adventure.

Still fancy another Suzuki GT500a like I owned in the early 80's ,my wife thinks that I have a problem but what does she know !
