Personally, I would have a pro look at it. I'm sure there's more qualified peeps on here who will advise accordingly though.
Supporting members get to post larger photos. Have you ever been a supporting member Pedro ? It costs £5 to be one if you haven't and you prolly won't need to pay for renewal for a good few years after that.

Looks to have been hot by that piccie but a job to tell at that size, it's a shame there was no size listing for the bearings or it could be undersized a bit to polish it out, at work we do .003" and .006" undersizes on a lathe with emery tape, any further we have to send away and get re-nitrided, it's a long job and takes a lot of measuring to keep the journal parallel and not oval.
You'd be best to find a local engine shop and ask them what they think, pitting is tricky enough to check in good light so from a photo would be very hit and miss.
The sporting member bit is still a bargain though.

Thanks for that snowbird. It had spun its bearing shells and locked the engine. No local engineering shops where I am so I might try cleaning it a bit more with 1000 grit but keeping an eye on the size. I thought I was still a supporting member but I noticed my username doesn't reflect that anymore. Will be addressing the little oversight on my part tonight. Too valuable a site to not spend a fiver, or in euros, 40,750
Edit: subscription done!
You didn't need to pay again mate. I'll update yer status. Sure Dappers will give you a refund when he's at a pc.

It depends a lot on how mashed the bearing shell was - pic would be good

I think you've been lucky and stopped on time (or it stopped itself!) I'd be very tempted to clean up the journal and rod, new shells and check with plastiguage

Seeing a bigger pic of that crank now it looks to be fairly well buggered to me, sorry to be a harbinger of doom but I'd be on the lookout for another crank and rods.
Looks pretty ropey around the fillet radius, it's not the bit you run on but stress risers there can soon lead to a big failure.

Disregard my previous post - I've just seen the bigger picture too (more ways than one) and I can see the damage Snowbird describes. I'd go along with his knowledge and opinion

I've never heard of a r/h big end failing. If it needs repaired (and it probably does) it would be worth seeing if Grampian Motors in Liverpool would regrind it and supply shells - as long as the conrod is ok
