It stopped again today at work, cooled down for 15 mins and it started ok, but Engine light is now on. So he is taking it back to dealer tomorrow.

Thanks. I made up my mind to buy something newish and tried a few.
Aprilia Shiver, nice but would need suspension tweaks for me, and the seat was always hot.
Enfield Interceptor 650, good for an old style bike but that was the problem. Front suspension soft, general quality not good when you get past the first impressions.
V strom 650. Nothing wrong with it but just didn't appeal. A bit of a a Ford Fiesta of a bike
V strom 1050. Quick and comfortable.
Tracer 700 and MT09. Couldn't get a test ride and seemed a lot of money for what they are.
Z900. Again no test.
Thought of others, including some other BMs, then found this at a dealer, two years old, 12000km, all the bells and whistles, new tyres and 12 months guarantee. I neither need it nor can justify it but so far I love it. Shaft drive, suspension and throttle adjustment at the push of a button or two, etc etc etc. Only time will tell
This video probably describes it better than I can

Nephew's first big bike glow is starting to wane as it's not been right from day 1. Still has it's Warrenty so it not costing him other than my diesel taking it there.
I must stop looking at new bikes in dealers, they must drug the coffee.

BMW is back. It was an intermittent fault within the loom. It had a new crank sensor, new loom, strangely also a new lock set and seems to be fixed. They also delivered it to his home for him. Fingers crossed that's the end of it.
Not an easy fault to locate.... Fingers crossed!

I have a Kawasaki that had an intermittent speedo fault from new. They replaced everything before deciding the fault was in the loom. New loom fitted and it's been fine ever since. Fingers crossed for you.
The best thing about being old is we did all our stupid stuff before the Internet was invented, so there’s no proof.

Intermittent electrical problems are the very worst to find as they are usually fine when you are there with a meter and play up as soon as you get a distance from home.

I had an FZ600 which I put an XJ600 engine in, different electronics but could I get it to spark? It worked in the guys garage before I bought it.
tested everything, bought another igniter, renewed the pickup etc etc
After 6 months i was going to give it to someone then in desperation, just changed one wire from the pickup and boom, engine fired up

Looked at a clean low miles Tracer 900 GT in the used bike section, salesman appears out of nowhere like Euriah Heap, trade is thin it seems.
