Good afternoon all

I'm in the market for a new lid as I now have to wear glasses  and they will not fit comfortably when using my existing AGV. In truth it was probably due for replacement but now I have some motivation to do it.

So rather than try on gawd knows how many lids i thought I would ask you wonderful people for some pointers on which ones to try. I've no objection to flip fronts but definitely not open face lids.

Budget is not a huge issue, with the exception of stupidly expensive ones.

So over to you guys and gals.

Cheers

John

I wear an HJC IS max, which I find comfortable wearing glasses and is reasonably quiet for a flip front. I think I paid about £150 six or seven years ago (I really ought to replace it thinking about it).

I wear specs and sunglasses and have a slip of leather that goes over my head to keep the spec's arms from digging into me head. But then I have an AVG (K5). Some make better provision for specs, as I would be interested to read as I need a new lid too. For me, the most important thing is fit for your head shape.

I second the HJC IS max as I wear glass and no issues there, mine a Max 2 in blue..

My Shoei Qwest is fine with specs, but I only wear it when weather is really cold or wet. I much prefer an open face (currently an AGV, previously a Shoei Freeway.)

I never refer to bike helmets as "crash" helmets. Sounds bad...

Shark Evo one is my latest, pretty sure it has slots for your glasses, cant look as it's in France at the moment but i ride mostly with the chin bar locked at the back of the helmet and only tend to close it in rain on the motorway, very comfy indeed.....also have an HJC IS Max and for the money another great flip up.

One thing to look out for in a store is old stock (if it bothers you).

Just got myself a new lid.

Shark Skwal - has cutouts in the side padding for glasses, and the new Pinlock MAX included. Funky LEDs above & below visor and in the rear for night visibility.
If you're an AGV wearer then the Shark is a similar head shape.

I did have an HJC IS Max and I found it not so comfy with glasses. I got pressure behind ears on the curve of the glasses arms.

If you have a decent shop nearby get in for some test fits.

Shoei GT Air gets my vote too..and I wear glasses as well. Super quiet and light compared to my previous HJC. You can pick up some well discounted ones if you're not too bothered in 'this year's latest colours' ....saved £140 on mine this way  :)

You got me going and I have bought a new lid. AGV K5 again ("Guy Martin", only because I liked the colours). Comfy and now with provision for specs. The latest K5-S is about £60 more. Well pleased.

After my Shoei was pensioned off I didn't fancy paying silly money again and found the HJC FG-17 a great replacement. They seem to be well made and comfortable with glasses. My only gripe (and there's always one) is that the upper vents can be a bit noisy even when they're closed. I covered mine with Fablon and that's solved the problem.

I paid £179 for mine but they're available new on Fleabay for £85 which is a real bargain I reckon for a fibreglass composite jobby.
