Mate of mine wants to know what the bike is that his grandad is pictured on. Circa 1920 he believes. Come on Graham! LOL

Suggestions from my friend who's into classics:
 

would suggest an early Brough Superior, however, it looks like a Jap engine, who's engines were fitted to loads of machines, so could be a random manufacturer, like Nut, Bown, Lea and Francis, or an independent . ??
