Touratech mount adds to the costs, but keeps it well secured to the bike. The previous touratech mount and satnav will be downcycled to the Royal Enfield.
Technology has moved on.

Ooops !
Does the XL offer the 'twisty route' option ? I've heard a few peeps saying how they're liking it.

Anybody on here use MRA Routeplanner rather than Garmin's own route making software ?

No experience with MRA.
You could try the online Kurviger routeplanner.
I've used it to make a "twisty route" then export it as a gpx-track.
Works like a charm

That looks lovely ! Really nice maps. I'm already signed up to MRA, which I'm pretty impressed with, but I think I'll have a closer look at Kurviger later.
Thanks for that...

Hi Curly, glad to be of help!
Another possibility is the use of TomTom Mydrive. Especially the option "Scenic Segments" is useful when planning a route and the options Thrill: Hilliness and Windiness (curving route).
You can make a free account, plan a route and export it as a gpx file.
Be aware: the gpx file contains the route (way points) ànd the track (the exact representation of the route on the screen).
You can use RouteConverter to ditch the route and only save the track, if necessary.
There is even a small program available to simply delete the route and save the track in the gpx-file.
The author of this program has shared it on the dutch www.motor-forum.nl and it works like a charm!
It was build to use it for the TomTom navigation units, but it is also useful for garmin and others.

Thanks Peter !
That's what I really like about this Forum, you get tried and tested good advice from people. I'll certainly be trying these option out over the next few months before I plan a deep south of France raid.

After a number years I’m still using my iPhone for navigation, using the Scenic app, motorcycle specific navigation. Dead easy to plan a route on-screen or by using the browser on my Mac. It’s also very easy to import gpx tracks or routes (I forget which one) from Scenic browser software or Google maps, etc. Scenic uses a number of mapping databases for routing options, including Kurviger.
Highly recommended if you’re an iOS user. I think an Android version is in development. Once that’s cracked I’ll switch to a rugged android phone for moto duties and use it to run Scenic and DriveMode.
I like the reviews of the Zumo XT but I like electrical kit to be a multitasking as possible, cutting down on charging leads, connectors, etc. Of course, it does place all the eggs in one basket.

Hi, I am using MRA for routes after following on from Tyre, it's ok but I still use tom-tom MyDrive as well and google maps. MRA sends to my tom-tom Rider 500 easily, you can also split the routes easily. I don't think there is any one solution though and you have to be careful if you import a a track or a route as it can be a nightmare if you can't make a turn, i.e. when there is a diversion.
