Hello again ,

After several months without  no news , started again  a new engine rebuild .

For this new project i needed :

1 engine donor  from tdm 900 5ps

1 gearbox from tdm  850 4tx

 1 engine from tdm 850 3vd

so after several months i got my hands on a tdm 900 engine 5ps for parts , found a gearbox from tdm 850 4tx , and regarding  the 3vd engine already had several engines at home .

First part of the project was disassemble the 900 engine to see  parts i could use on the project .Apart of the cylinder bloc plus the pistons , manage to use water pump , both oils pumps , oil sump ( its deeper than a 850  sump ) so more oil available in the sump , both connecting rods since they have a larger piston pins.

Since the TDM 900 cylinder bloc is bigger than the 850 i had to machine the upper crankcase to match the new  cylinder bloc.

So the first step was to machine the upper crankcase

A project to watch for sure, good luck Medmonic, keep on with the updates.

I assume the complete 900 lump can't be made to fit then?

Is that only the main reason ?  Will it physically fit ? You can wipe out most of the electronic/fuel injection issues just by converting to gravity feed carbs. Finding an aftermarket ignition system which will be able to be used doesn't seem too difficult either

for me there are a lost of differences , one is the engine supports , the other is the crankshaft ,on engine 5ps 900 is at 270 degrees and the 3vd is at 360 degrees , my main goal here is to have the engine running at 360 degrees .

Okay. We've seen it done before, a 900 engine in a frame designed for the 850. (might have been a TRX but the same engine essentiallyly)....it seemed to only need some upper mounting adapter plates making, which i think you can have cut from a laser cutting service.

This should be interesting!!  Keep posting the build, please.

PS, if you have that many 3vd engines, would you have a good spare conrod you're willing to sell?

Cheers,

Pedro

Interesting. :munching_out:

Did you calculate the compression ratio before having the upper crankcase machined ?

I think Emmett and Ric machined the barrels rather than case. Hmm not sure of benefits of otherwise of either.

i am thinking in a project similar , frame TRX and a complet swap from a tdm 900 .......but trx frames are ard to find .........

Coxxxylad transplanted a 900 into his TRX frame. He also transplanted an MT09 into a TRX

wich color you want ???hahahaaah  !!let me know what you need and i will ship to you ..

I think Emmett and Ric machined the barrels rather than case. Hmm not sure of benefits of otherwise of either.

i machine the case , because in the 900 engine its the case that is machined , the barrels dont have a lot of room to be machined ...

were i machined the upper case , dont  mess  with the compression ratio , i just machined around the space were the barrels enter

Well lately internet at home has being a big issue , cant upload any photos ....welcome to France ......

Meanwhile i had some work to do in the head before install in the engine , the ideia was to increase air and exhaust flow due to bigger pistons ...
