Gentlefolk.

I'm looking to replace my Audi A6. A tidy & recent, low miles beemer, as above, is on the maybe list.

Grateful for info before I part with a wadge of hard-earned beer coupons.

TIA

If it's the 2 litre diesel engine I heard a lot of bad reports about it. Check on autotrader for comments. Maybe it's a newer engine?

Can't say to much about beemers but if you're buying a diesel with a DPF, you need to be doing good motorway miles to keep all in order.
If not get a petrol.

@ Catteeclan - The current car now shows 186,000 of which 120,000 odd are my miles. Original DPF still working fine :good:

@ THK  I've heard the stories too.

There was a recall for cam chain problems and a lot never got done can cost up to 4 to 5 grand to rectify.

@ Rallyist - Those engines are way too early for the vehicle I'm looking at.

The engine with the timing end between it and the gearbox are expensive when the timing chain goes.  The engine before that (I have one) had some dodgy early turbos and needed the butterfly flaps removing to avoid total failure.  If there is yet another engine, it may be that its weak spot is not yet identified. :unsure2:
