I've started noticing the bike being a bit squirmy when I'm leaning over in some corners and was concerned I'd got oil or something onthe side wall. What would be best to clean them? I was thinking white spirit?

How worn are the tyres? You'd get similar behaviour if they're starting to square off a bit. Worn swingarm or wheel bearings would do it too
I'd be very wary of putting any chemicals on the tyre, best way to remove anything from them is go for a hoon down a twisty road and wear it off.

Leave the Glycerin not on the tread. You lose the grip until the next rain.

Pressures are ok, tyre wear is good (~1500 miles left in them). The tyres (away from the centre) feel a bit slippy to touch. I also went down the road the other day while leaning over into a corner I'm ok but it put a ding in my brand new zorst. I'm now very wary of leaning over.
Thanks Limbo, I'll give glycerin a try.

Ok so its got a quantity of salt in it but I'd just give them a good wash with some fairy liquid and warm water, not that cheap washing up liquid its naff!

Don`t. I gather a slippery feeling was the original problem? Glycerin has a lot of usages as lubircant, moisturizer, component of skin care products, ingredient in food and tobacco products and so on. Its characteristics as a lubricant and anti-freeze prevention make Glycerin an excellent chemical. But I believe using it to clean a slippery tyre is an accident waiting to happen. Or I could have totally misread the question and you`d like to prevent the tyre from freezing to the rim.

Yes thanks. I'm getting the fairy liquid and warm water out tomorrow.
T&G - normally I'd blame myself for an accident/mishap but it was a bit of road I travel every day. Did the same as I always do and wham! I'm sliding along the ground.

I know the feeling Arthur, I took a test ride on a NC 750 X honda last year on a very windy day, and when I was back inside the dealership I watched helplessly as my Tedium blew over with the wind The old girl must have thought I'll learn that Bastid to ride something else and leave me here!

Funny that. As 18 months ago when I went out on Whitey (RIP) to look at a cheapish ZZR1100 supposedly V.G.C. but with fuel issues. I had my low speed spill which wrote her off. The ZZR was to say the least, not in my opinion VGC. But even as I was riding out to look at it I couldn't help wondering why I was thinking of changing bikes.
Now I just fly everywhere.

How long have your tires been on the bike? Despite having tread if the tires are old or have been through a lot of heat cycles they will lose there grip.
Also consider that road conditions change massively no matter how often you ride it.
A good clean will at least remove slippy surface worries for you.
A damn good thrashing down a dry, twisty B road will tell the full story.
TDM's going Kamikaze? Yeah, must be a design trait. I was shuffling the in favour Gasgas round the shed the other night & just touched the front tire of TDM. Bugger hurled itself to the floor with an awful noise. Broken mirror, slight scratches & a bent gear lever. I'm still confounded how it happened. Jealousy would explain it.

The tyre is about a year old. I've lost confidence in the rear and bought a new PR3. Wear on the right hand side is greater than the left which may have contributed.
