Here's a pic of the bike I'm using.
Borrowed it off my young bruv to see if I took to cycling to help me get fit and lose some weight. Now hoping he'll donate it to a worthy cause.
It's a circa '97 British Eagle Shadow, alloy frame and rims and it's fitted with a Shimano Alivio group set. (oooh, lol !) It's also a lot tattier than the pic shows as it has since been stood for a few years in his leaky garage. If I get it to keep, I'll renew all the rusty steel nuts n bolts and pedals and give it a proper clean and polish over winter.
Currently using it 5-6 days a week on short undulating routes, with the odd killer (for me) hill thrown in.
2 things wot I have learnt. Wind makes you feel loike a wimp and watching the TDF doesn't help.

Well done Cliff, 10 miles is a good 7 miles more than I did on my first ride out. Got to the first hilltop and had to stop, second attempt and I was passed by a middle-aged female jogger half way up.
Tried the canal path where I live as I wanted to find a flat route, bloody path musta been layed over the tree roots though and it was far too bumpy for comfort.

Yep it's a start at least, luckily it's all flat locally and only intend to really use the canal path but i think that offers a bit more in the way of a work out than on the road, Dave was doing 20 miles so i've a bit to catch up yet..
Another bike to maintain though 1st job is to get that seat post greased up well and good..
