This summer I'm off to Spain again (solo - as She Who Wants To Be Obeyed is not able to come along this time), riding the 4TX and while I usually have a bit of a look about and stay in hotels, this year I'm taking my lightweight camping kit too. I'm away mid July &  back during the first week of September. I will be camping at various altitudes and I know what gear to take for this. Some of the time I will be based around the southern end of the Ronda Rd as I get free digs here (well the odd bottle of rioja and pack of beer).........

Mosquitoes love me (gotta be loved somewhere right?),I'd like some input about this as an in-tent option - use a 12v to 220v 100w inverter to plug in a standard mozzy tablet heater thingy which needs 10w at 230v and would normally be plugged into your hotel room.

I'm not fit enough to bump start Newtons Cradle, so battery flattening is right out.

I do have a small 12v sealed lead acid battery which I could use to power the inverter instead of the bike battery. I could charge this extra battery in parallel to the bike via an isolating switch if the TDM battery alone is not up to the job, but I'd rather not bother with the extra battery if I can get away without it, if you get my drift. Oh and the inverter may charge my Galaxy Tab 3 on an evening for tunes, interwebbing, skype and the like.

Willing to buy a Lifesystems unit for mozzy death dealing, but I would rather have the proven death to all ability of the 220v domestic unit if possible.

Thanks for any comments related & helpful or not.............. :)

High Favs

followed your ebay link to see what it was. In the description it states the active ingredient as being Transfluthrin, harmless to humans. Really? I am not a scientist but some of these findings are disturbing.

http://www.fluoridea...ansfluthrin.htm

If it happens to dogs, rats and mice, why not to humans. And if these do not apply to humans why test on poor animals in the first place? That's another thread altogether anyway.

We tried all sorts of chemical solutions against mosquitoes and midgets in Norway. The only stuff that worked was the spray the locals bought in local supermarkets. And that was different from area to area. Why not just ask when you get there?

Avon "Skin so soft" :good:  It works well, but it makes you smell like a big poof!!! a couple of phillipino sailors followed us back to the digs in Ullapool last year on one of the Highland runs :rotflmmfao:

I have heard it said that eating Marmite will make the little buggers leave you alone. Probably a rumour spread about by the Marmite people

Thanks for all the input  folks -

Inverter solution suggests 5 hours to glass half full/empty re standard battery status. I need to calculate/test with back-up battery for cranking ability.

Lots of reviews +ve & -ve for the Lifesystems unit - going to give that a miss until tests above have been done.

Burning coils/incense/candles may not be suitable for use in a tent

Deet spray and wipes I know well & will use anyway.

Ta v much
