By 1988 my trusty Triumph 500 was getting a bit tired and performance was definitely heading south. I still rolled it out occasionally for a local NDRC club meeting if time and money allowed. The blower desperately needed servicing, the clutch was slipping and I was experimenting with reducing the exhaust valve overlap, hence the constant revving as it wouldn't tick over and to cap it all, in the race against the ex-Mick Butler Weslake V-twin I had failed to secure the header pipes which obligingly popped off at 100ft causing me not a little anxiety.

These video clips were taken in 1988 by a friend who had never been to a drag race, hence no rolling burnout from the Gary Page funny car as he dropped the camera in shock!

Looks like good fun. Are you still competing? Smaller scale sprint races happen locally at Westonzoyland, Somerset. Older guys have a go at it too!
