Outside!

That will be right side in UK and Eire, left side elsewhere in Europe.

I mounted mine on the outside of the hand guards. Easy to reach without remote switch.

Mine is mounted on right panel a bit under and behind right front winker. As these cameras are wide-angled, it does not really matter on which side it is mounted - it sees all...

In addition, I have a mounting fixture on the right side of my helmet. I actually prefer using this one as it always shows the front panel, windscreen, and right mirror - perfect orientation relative to the scenery.
Another benefit - it always shows the speed snd gear-counter, and this data is the best evidence in case of any traffic "conflict" with any other vehicle...

If you're planning on using it for some holiday movies rather than evidence in case of an accident, then I personally prefer multiple mounts.  I use a suction mount on the left side faring (mainly used on touring holidays so see above comments about the outside) which I quite like as you can see the front suspension working, one on top of my helmet which is good for admiring the scenery, and one rear facing on the back of a pannier which is good if you've got a mate behind you.

Mark/Harside/Amarko has also done a couple of videos with it mounted near the swingarm which looks pretty good.

Also worth doing a bit of testing, I tried a mount on the handlebars (bit too bouncy) and the nose (bit bouncy but I didn't really like having the camera just flying along with no reference to the bike in the picture)

Example on this one https://www.youtube....h?v=ENIHFegA5NM

2 mins for helmet mount example

4 mins for rear facing example

8 mins for a side faring example

I'd recommend experimenting.  I found with my GoPro (Hero2) that the narrower field of view of the 1080p mode made for a slightly more bouncy picture than the slightly wider FOV of it's 720p mode.

It's also about what you want to do with the footage, if you plan to do some editing and make some nice videos then a high resolution 16:9 makes sense, but if you're going to post it to youtube o you really need more than 720p?

Standard UK TV is PAL at 25fps, while the American use NTSC at 30fps, again for display on a PC it doesn't matter but if you want to make a DVD to show on a TV it might.

Most cameras these days can also do higher frame rates, great if you want to do some slo-mo but not a lot of point otherwise.

The biggest consideration is probably file size though, I went out to the Alps the other year with Mark/Hartside and came back with about 100GB of video, he was running his camera at a higher resolution though so mush have had way more

I recommend at least 720p, preferably 1080p, (widescreen) at 60 frames per second. Higher frame rate as previously mentioned doesn't yield any benefit, unless you capture a crash of course...

I don't think the side of the bike matters, unless there is specific scenery you want to capture such as riding around a lake or mountain edge or something. I tried mounting on the tank and I reckon the footage is a little dull. Mounting on your head makes it much smoother as your head acts as a gyro stabiliser and you get a good POV.

Different sportsbike positions are on one of my videos https://youtu.be/Kv4K3Lyi6_k 8:28 looks good in the low sun. When that was made I had a habit of not editing enough, now I know that less is more!

If you're keen and have an external mic (they are good value) then experiment with putting it in different places to get the best engine note with minimal wind noise (didn't have that on the above video).

Agree, the camera needs to be a bit higher so you can see the road ahead.  Good quality vid and sound Dave.
