Well I took the plunge, fitted an electric pump then added MK2a  carbs and airbox to my '91,first impressions, response is loads better,no flat spots, pulls like a train it just constantly backfires, carbs have been professionally cleaned with new parts, screws are 2 turns out, bike is fitted with Delkevic 2 into 1 exhaust,do I need to swap jets ?

is the airbox fixed securely to the carbs as the rubbers for the MK1 carbs are a different size to the rubbers for the MK2a carbs

Do you mean backfiring through exhaust or spitting back through carbs? Big back fires or a bit of a crackle on the over-run?

My MK2a with delkevic always has a little crackle on over-run which I quite like, nothing loud and I'm not going to do anything about it.

a mix of big backfires and crackling through the exhaust,I've got some 145 main jets knocking about some where safe,if I can find them I'll give them a try

Mine had these gentle but audible crackings on the overrun. Nothing much, but I believe the Mk1 ones didn' produce as much...

Turning the pilot screws out 1/2 a turn and fitting an inline baffle stopped the backfires on mine.  Also a lot quieter.
