Lots on cams and timing in the knowledgebase have a read through, 9r in further pages but near as the same for 8fiddly...

Ps If you wanted to check the cam sensor for sure, i took out the crank sensor from behind the sprocket cover as a swap to test the cam sensor ( i believe it's actually a "get you home swap") bike ran rough as a pigs ear but proved a buggered cam sensor, perhaps worth checking, i did have help and your more clued up than i am, but perhaps it may help !!!

Many suggest that the cam sensor and the speedo sensor are the same but they do have a different profile although the same electrical characteristics. I did try using speedo senso as a try out but to no avail.

Have you done a compression check ?

I was going to then realised that the thread on my compression tester was too big. Doh

UPDATE

Many thanks for the interest shown on this thread and my problem

It was valve based. Cam tensioner had failed in a big way and timing chain had jumped sprockets.

No valve damage though. 3 broken exhaust studs but should be sorted OK

Many thanks to all for consideration

Good to hear, the sensors are different which is known, replacing the cam with the speed sensor is a get you home aid as such and not a direct replacement though, i swapped mine out years ago and the bike ran albeit a bit rough, but told me the cam sensor was foobar.

Looks like you got lucky with the tensior and no valve damage  :good:
