What do you call a lot of miles?

I've done 138000 miles on one of mine and wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere.

Dicky i really rate the Versys 650 as her in doors has one,  i've done a few ride outs on it but not enuf to know if it'd be a good contender fer a long distance steed. Cheap to buy used too.   KTM SMT is a noice boike too.

spyball alarm/immob, bluespot brake calipers and Stainless hoses, Fournales air adjustable shock with Remote Resevoir, forks raised 10mm thru yokes, racetech linear fork springs in 15 wt oil, Kappa wingrack/luggage, heated grips, Kedo handguards, dual heat controller to power heated jacket liner and or pants!!, Stebel 136DB horn, K&N air filter, colour matched Baglux tank cover (magnetic tank bag modified to fit cover), osram +50% headloight bulbs, headlight protector,"NitramSpecial" parking loight, tail light indicators all running on LED's & incorporate "Lite Buddies", MK7 Scottoiler fitted, taller screen, 2-2 stainless steel CCC's, Devil stainless down pipes. MKI Renntec engine crash bars & sump guard.
engine changed july 2007 on a dyno run it made 79.1BHP / Torque 59.9Had a brief flirtation with a 1999 MKIIa but it blew an exaust valve on the M5 so was sold on to be repaired.

Personally, if I had the inclination to buy a new bike I'd have a KTM SMT. That LC8 engine is absolutely bl00dy fantastic.

GS's are great bikes too, built for touring, including some rough stuff but then I've only ridden my 1100 - no experience of the new 1200's (dohc, water cooled, 125bhp. sounds OK to me). I don't like the GSA, just don't like the look of 'em.

How about the Honda 1200 Crosstourer(?). Not my thing at all, but they're getting some really good reviews, as is the 800 version (Crossrunner?). Normal Honda build quality and turbine smooth motors.

Triumph Adventurer, or Tiger? Yamaha Super Tenere? Kawasaki Versys 650 or 1000?

There are some cracking bikes out there. At the end of the day it's all down to personal choice and what floats your boat :)

Not according to their website.

They don't list a tdm in their new bikes section.

I wonder if I've got the youngest TDM in England?

Registered 1st July this year?

SMT's are a hoot but I don't find them comfortable over distance, infact I've not ridden a comfortable KTM.
I regularly tour with friends who have the 950 & 990 Adventure versions, economical they're not, £15 in TDM will be £23+ in the 990-950 carb version slightly better.
Crosstourer & Tenere are good but tall & heavy even compared to a GS.
Versys 650 - SWMBO has two, MK1 & MK2. They'll match the TDM for crusing speed & econmony - with the high seat fitted they have more leg room than TDM so give my ageing knees an easier time.
My GSA betters all of the above in all areas except TDM & Versys fuel consumption.

Why do I tour on the TDM?
It's lighter weight makes it more manageable, it's fun & more involving - you have to 'ride' it to get the best out of it - when I park up I can't help but look back at it & smile.
Lots of low mileage TDM's available - grab a bargain while you can.

BMW GS or GSA

I am Sooooo glad you qualified that statement.

BMfookinW GS or GSA could never be considered as a replacement for the TDM, not even a poor substitute. :punishment:

A bum swap is more like it.

I would rather buy any other bike  in the world first, even a scoota before that pile of over-rated shite.

I herd yesterday that the new 2014 model can have its instrument panel Robbed by undoing a single clip. £700 to replace.

And the stupid GS-ukers still fookin rave about it. :rotflmmfao:

Truth of the matter is you're frightened to spend a day riding a GS 'cos you know you'll love it ;)

Are the new LC GSA's worth over 15k?
To me no but each to their own.
I hired a LC GS in Austria this Aug for a day, fast but rough as a badgers - vibration/graunching felt 'thru the footrests was horrendous.

Mines 7 yr old and the previous owner went round the world twice without problem.

He did 2093 miles in 7 yrs :)

It'll sit resplendent in its lack of Touratech clothing to be used when I need a GS 'fix'

Rest of the time it'll be the TDM, all said & done it's fine for keeping up with the Wife's Versys ;)

Woe !

Are you customising your Bavarian Tractor, non standard exhaust and your own version of touratech.

That is against Corporate policy and the wrath of the GSombies  will be unleashed,

Why not buy a Multistrada ? I parked next to one the other day and  was pleased to see that it is almost exactly the same size  as my TDM. I believe it weighs about the same

but it has all the extra features like dynamic suspension, traction control, modes  etc. It is a beautiful looking bike and is not a great bloated lump like some of the other

"adventure" bikes.

Another option would be the Aprilia Caponord 1200. Looks a nice bike. Your TDM is well up to the job though.

What do you mean by new?

They stopped making them 5 years ago.

They may have stopped making them back then,  but in Australia you can still buy new ones,  ie. ones with zero kms/miles on the clock.
