Help Needed Leak From ?

i have started my bike today after it being stood for a while and noticed radiator coolant on the floor on inspection it looks like its leaking from here.

what is this and any suggestions on how to fix greatly appreciated.

Thats the thermostat housing. The case distorts with time, and also the o-ring gets squished and rigid. Very common fault. Replace/repair as necessary

Once ewe have accessed it. .. My advice to extend the wiring while yar there will make more sense.

Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.

where is the best place to get a thermostat and o rings for my bike from mk2 4tx1 please

You shouldn't need a new thermo housing. The lid is only held by two bolts which allows it to distort over the years.

I just used an o ring from a generic box and sealed the lid bacon.... That was ermm 13 years ago and still holding ok.

Done that an all, also sillyconed it in the past which worked.


Bigred mk1 R1 Calipers- Braided lines- Givi wing rack-Crash bungs- Hi vis bullets-PR2's- and a hoot to ride.

Technically speaking, putting it in boiling water to make sure it opens and closes is a good enough test. Practically speaking, they can fail instantly at any time, and new ones live longer than used ones generally.   It's just an hour to change it though , so having a spare on hand on the shelf would be what i'd do
