Giving my calipers a post winter clean out and have unfortunately managed to pop a piston out so now the caliper needs to be bled, question is, is there a different method to bleeding a bike with an abs system compared to a non abs system?

When I bled the Fazer's, it's just the normal process as long as you're only knocking air out of the caliper.

If it's a complete re-fill or you've got air in the ABS module, then I think it's a bit more long winded as you need to bleed the module too etc - I've never done that so may be easy on the early systems, but not sure.

For your job sounds like a normal bleed should be fine though.

I did the same on my 900A and agree with Nog.
Brakes are AOK, but I did a full fluid replacement.

Bleeding the ABS brakes is a separate procedure.

When you just pump the DOT4 fluid through the lines it doesn't cover the ABS-unit.

To actually bleed the ABS-unit, as follows: https://translate.go...t-text=&act=url

This is a German-site. Hope the translation is correct. If you can read German: click in the upper right corner on "original text".

Be careful not to overload the ABS-pump! It could run hot if you repeat the pumping to often.

This procedure is also the most simple way to test the ABS system.

Wouldn't it be possible to do this by strapping the brake lever overnight ? I did it on an ER6 where I had reinstalled the ABS unit, worked a treat !

That is a nice way to get the air out of the system, but it won't refresh the brake fluid in the ABS-unit.

The only proper way is to activate the ABS-pump as described in the link.

...but this was about bleeding, wasn't it ? Or did I miss something ?

Your quite right! Sorry!

I've misread bleeding for changing the brake fluid :blush2:

Must be the language and I'm getting old
