Hi folks. New member here, was told about this site by a guy on Facebook

I picked up a really tidy standard 53 plate 900, and I'm looking to change the exhausts.

I've found a set of pipes from a tdm850 (the ones that do that weird curvy bit as the downpipes meet the cans).

Will they fit? Don't want to take the current ones off and have to mess around with new gaskets if they're not going to fit!

Cheers

:welcome:  Any photos of the bike ?

Pretty sure 900 exhausts not the same as 850's, something to do with Lamba sensors for the fuel injection, possibly wrong ! I'm sure someone will be along with correct info shortly.

Nice looking bike! Can't say 100% but I'm pretty sure 850 pipes won't fit a 9er.

If you ever DO get around to buying new pipes I got these Demons from SP Engineering and have been well impressed with the quality, fit, and sound.

Thanks folk. I'm seriously impressed with it so far, coming from an old '89 ZX-10 and an '87 CBR750...

Plenty power, bit snatchy at sub 3k but I've seen few mods for it on here I'll look closer into.

I can see other exhausts on eBay for about 250 - black widow ones looks nice and I've used them before, so I'd better get saving

Thanks for the help folks

Yeah, the standard ones look okay and if I really wanted, I suppose I could cut them down and gut them which would probably make a difference

Not expecting any power gains but when I say 'more vroom I mean more noise from the bike so I don't have to go 'vroooom' inside my helmet

They sound amazing when you ditch the standard cans. When filtering the traffic is very much more aware of your presence.

Have Fuel on mine, been on the bike for many many years and still going strong, no corrosion or anything and sound great.

If you want to save money there is a mod where you can Dremel out the inside of the outlet pipe which ends up bypassing the last couple of chambers.  It makes them much more growly, but the issue is you don't get any weight saving.

The biggest issue with the stock cans is they weigh a ton, and with a pair of them it's a large weight saving when you change to aftermarket.

If you want dirt cheap and don't mind some Chinesium silencers with a little bodging, get a couple of these and some link pipe https://www.ebay.co....UK/173007101377

I splashed out on a pair of Laser Duo Techs just after I got my first TDM back in 20006 - they are still going strong 12 years and 60,000+ miles later on my second one. I liked the fact that they have a bracket rather than a strap and were quite upswept but had the option to be lowered. I got mine for £400 but I think they are up to about £600 for the pair now.

Here they are on the first 900 - pictured to show that they clear luggage even in the highest position

However I just found these on Ebay at under £400 delivered from Germany;

Laser Auspuff Silencers Duo Tech Yamaha TDM 900 0206 RN08/RN11 http://r.ebay.com/MHhDAe

It seems pucka and if mine were showing any signs of wear I'd be tempted. (Cue my pair falling apart on the way home................)

Hi Guys,

I could do with some advice please as Ive reached a cross roads I feel with the current set up.

Bought a 2012 registered TDM900 non abs las year. I was aware that it had had a few mods done but having looked here I didn't think it was anything that couldn't be fixed.

Main issue was the low speed fuelling and snatchiness,  The bike is fitted with a 2 into 1 downpipe set and has an MTC single can on.  The centre stand still on so everything either made to fit or

the system was suitable from something else.

The low speed was unrideable, I have done the airbbox  flap mod to de-activate it made no difference, I have removed the K&N filter on the advice of a mechanic,( i.e. more air means even weaker running) and replaced with stock, big improvement,

I have chopped the top of the airbox to open it up I have been through the Co2 range top to to bottom and I cannot get smooth low end running?slight improvement,

I am at the stage where now

I either have the existing set up dyno'd to try and make it work, mucho spondoolie

I revert back to 2 - 2 with a matched set of p[ipes and hope ill be able to find a co2 setting that works

I revert back to 2 - 2 with standard cans and hope to be able to fix, mucho spondoolie

or i sell the damned thing off and look for something else. I love the bike absolutely above 5k but you have to be able to get out to somewhere to use it

Is the 2 - 1 a fundamental flaw which cannot be rectified??  Any suggestions and advice gratefully received and considered

Thanks

I had the same problem with my 2013 3000 mile bike. The tickover was all over the place and very snatchy at low speed.
I would say start with the csm (cold start mechanism) and make sure that is working properly, then get the throttle bodies balanced. This improved things and now ticks over at 1300 with a steady needle. I still get a bit of snatching when off throttle but have recently found out thats because the fuel is shut off completely, an ecu flash / dyno will be dealing with that in due course.
