Finally brought my 900 home from the work bike shed where it's been sitting abandoned and unloved for far too long (started first time though once the battery was charged), and the front brake seems to be pulsing.  With the wheel off the ground at a tiny bit of pressure on the lever there's definitely a lot more drag at one point of the revolution, but no obvious warp, rust or other damage.  I plan to take the callipers off and make sure everything is moving ok, but could this be caused by a sticky calliper or is there another problem I should be looking for?

Probably initially sticking caliper...can advance to warped disc pretty quick.

Also fits in with it being out of commission for a while.

The flat edge of an engineers ruler will expose warped/wavy disk.

Probably initially sticking caliper...can advance to warped disc pretty quick.

Also fits in with it being out of commission for a while.

Only rode it 3km home and avoided using the front brake after the first time I used them and it pulsed, so hopefully no follow on issues.  Plan to take the calipers off to make sure everything's clean and free as part of doing a service on it.  Poor thing's probably only done about 20km in the last 2 years.

Yer floating discs may have sunk!!while the calipers are off, check the disc bobbins are all free and turning.

Any tips for freeing them if one is stuck?  Is it just a case of sticking a big bolt in the hole and turning it, or might it need a soak in something and then I'll be forever paranoid I haven't degreased the disk sufficiently?

I never got to free up my bobbins, so had to fix pulsing by servicing calipers. Worked every time😎

Nut and bolt Chris, just jam it up till it holds and rotate, use brake cleaner.

Or even brake fluid itself, which is a great penetrant, missus !

Finally got round to sorting this out.  Put an M8 bolt (I reckon M10 might be a fraction too big but didn't have one to test) though each bobbin and made sure  they all can turn.  They're stiff but turn pretty easily with a ratchet on them now.  Took the callipers off and cleaned up the pistons and greased the pins on the rear calliper mount.  Not been for a proper test ride but had a quick roll down the path a couple of time and the pulsing seems to have stopped.  Thanks for the advice.

Now I just need to wash it, change the brake fluid, change the oil and filter, clean and lube the chain, check the heated grips for shorts (fuse blown), and then maybe ride it.

Given that I've hardly used it in a couple of years, what else should I be looking at doing.  Lube the shock mounts and wheel/head bearings?
