I got to have a sit on the beast today, another Carpe member will be along later with a video of his test ride.

Camera batteries died otherwise I would have taken more pictures.

Likes:

It is a small bike. and feels very light, and the seat height will be fine for those of us with normal sized legs to paddle it in and out of parking spaces easily.

It looks like it will be a super commuting tool.

The engine feels smooth and free reving.

The bike is very short, and will be very maneuverable.

There is some very nice engineering in this bike.

Dislike/not sure about:

The bike disappears at the handle bars, there appears to be nothing in front of the dash unit, I found this a bit disconcerting.

The seat will kill you after an hour or so.

The foot rests seem to be quite far back

It's a really short bike, which might make it twitchy?

Doesn't look like it will be a two up tourer.

There's some nice touches, the exhaust transfer pipes are nicely finished

Attached File  DSCF0015.JPG   115.4KB   78 downloads

I know I've not even ridden it yet but I feel it's going to take a hell of a lot more than this to prise me off my 850

Sounds exactly like a Street Triple - which is it's main competition - should sell very well

Trouble is, for most of us on Carpe, the ideal machine is a 130mph bath chair that does 500mpg !   :P

I had a sit on an MT-09 last week, and having previously tried a street triple I think the Yam makes the triumph feel the size of a goldwing, it is just so small I felt I was gonna break it

It's definitely a bike you could have a lot of fun with, but I wouldn't want one as my only bike.

As previous posters have said, it does feel a bit like a turbo charged Dinky toy.

I could see people using them in moto- gymkhana, supermotad or something like that.

But two up with luggage? :rotflmmfao:

Triumph have the Tiger 800, 1050 and 1200

BMW have the 650, 800 and 1200 GS (ok so the 650's 800cc but its the thought that counts)

It'd be nice to think Yamaha might consider plonking something in between the 660 and 1200 Tenere's, but it took a lot of years of big GS sales to make them realise there was a market for a 1200 Tenere so I'm not holding my breath.

Got to have a look and a sit on one today at the Copdock bike show.  Bars/pegs/seat relationship seems very like a niner.  I see what you mean about being nothing past the bars Mick.  It feels and looks unfinished in that regard and deffo needs a fairing.

Without having ridden it, I quite like it, but as already stated, ok for local blasts and not much good for two up or luggage (or both).

I sat on a Kwak SX1000 and it felt exactly the same except it had a fairing on it.  I like that too, but still can't get my head around why someone would want a bike with enough cylinders for two bikes, so that would put me off the SX.  Twins have always served me well and I don't like inline revvy 4 bangers much.

What's its tank range though? A lot of people moan about the BMW F800 having a small tank but modern engines are pretty efficient and it still gets a decent range.

Well guys and gals, I have some news on this bike.

As most of you will know I have just bought Dandy's bike but before picking it up I called into my local dealers to get some new gear.

Whilst there I told them about my new steed and the reason the MT09 not worth considering being that it wouldn't suit my needs without weather protection.

I was then chastised for not having spoken to them first because.......

Early next year Yamaha are releasing the replacement for the TDM. Whilst this is official it is not yet public knowledge so please keep it under your helmet.

The replacement is actually a faired MT09 with different fuel maps and slightly taller gearing.

Apparently the frame of the current bike has all the mount points for the fairing if you know where to look.

You can find some artist renderings of a TDM/MT09 hybrid on the net and my source says that these are very close to the finished product.

Further more he also says this is just the beginning and there are plans for the MT marque to be a family affair.

He reckons that the faired model will come in at less than £7000 too.

This is disappointing news if true. I was hoping it was gonna be the cross plane twin they showed off. I don't see a TDM as a triple,it will give it different characteristics and probably end it's status as the most frugal big bore bike.

Sticking a fairing on the front wont change the essential issue with the MT-09 (IMHO). It's too small for touring or two up.

Maybe the cross plane twin 900 will be used to power a smaller stable mate to the Superten?
