Seen the new triple today, had a sit on it and a bit of a chat with the salesman, sorry but it's not for me.
Hopping Yamaha bring out a adventure style model by next year, I could be due for a change by then.

"...still can't get my head around why someone would want a bike with enough cylinders for two bikes, so that would put me off the SX. Twins have always served me well and I don't like inline revvy 4 bangers much."
Well said Trevini!! Even though I've liked triples since I had a Laverda RGS1000 (sports-tourer with 120-degree-crank engine) in the '80s, that's still one pot too many for me.
Yamaha have recently admitted publicly that they've lost their way and it looks like the answer they've come up with is to copy Triumph - who returned to greatness by copying the Japanese!! It's a funny old world...

If they've lost their way, maybe they ought to start by improving on what they have. I've always had a soft spot for Yamaha and most of my bikes, and the guitar I've had since 1991, have been Yamaha, because they make guitars and bikes that consistently work well. But...as well as being consistent with the good bits, they're also consistent with the bad bits. They don't seem to be interested in customer feedback. They could've started by getting the EFI sorted on their bikes to improve rideability, that would go a long way in retaining their customer base.Yamaha have recently admitted publicly that they've lost their way and it looks like the answer they've come up with is to copy Triumph - who returned to greatness by copying the Japanese!! I can't imagien that the MT-09 is the only bike they will bring out with that triple engine given the cost assosiated with designing a completly new engine. I am sure there will be a new TDM and I for one would be all on for a triple, I currently ride an ST1050 and the triple gives the best of power and driveability...I'm happy with the news of the TDM/MT-09!
Have you ever lent someone 20 quid and never seen it again? It was probably worth it.
Long Loved TDM is no longer with me...

Well Im 6'6" and I sat on one Sunday (Copdock bike Show), and rather embarrasing really, there is a picture of me on it. Although the foot positions felt similar to the TDM, I looked a bit oversized for it, and as Trevini said (who took the picture), said they haven't finished the front end, and I did feel a bit silly and feel like I was sitting on top of it. Not my cup of tea, TDM all the way for me.

@ Trevini, I put the pic in another MT-09 related thread today as well. Didn't realise you had already!

I havent ridden the MT yet but I did have a sit on one the other day. Way too small for me to fit comfortably
I want to have a go for the engine alone, but that mock up doesnt make me want to trade in
Someone else mentioned an xtz variant was on the cards and that might be a contender - we shall see

Obviously, not many here interested in the MT-09 but, for those that are, there's a group test in MCN next week incl. Striple, Kawa Z800 and MV Brutale.

So the weather was pretty good this afternoon and thought I'd take a ride over to Blades in Swindon to have a look at this new MT-09, first impressions it's looks ok! not my cup of tea but it's no 900. Not keen on the naked look against my 9ner, then like the rest of us I'm preaching to the converted..
Blades had no demos to let me have a go and they're going like hot cakes one of the guys said, there was a unregistered 900 In white there, with the black frame and engine and it looked bloody lovely.
So on summing up on the MT-09 if I was in the market for a new bike, I just can't justify shelling out on one, my 9ner on a 03 plate pulls like a train, looks nuts I can blast out 400 miles In a day and I can still walk afterwards and the biggest bonus is it owes me nothing. I paid £1800 for it 18 months ago, so if anything I owe it to my bike keep it on the road showing these main stream owners how bleeding versatile they are.
Anyway that's my rant/preaching over... Sorry; not been out in ages on the bike due to work and after a couple of miles i remembered why I love my TDM so much ;-)
Don't ever ask me to review a bike, it will be totally biaist towards the TDM's now off to the fridge for a cool beer.

If you have not seen the MCN test they put it third after the Triumph Street Triple and the Kawa Z800, mainly because of a very poor throttle response with the power coming in very suddenly off a closed throttle. Apparently it completely spoiled the other good characteristics. (With thanks to Tesco's newspaper display - you surely didn't think I'd actually buy the rag!)
Reminiscent of the FZ1 - you'd think they would have learned from that.
