Who's got the highest mileage out of their TDM (so far) and what issues have you had?

My old beast ('91 3VD) has done 152 000 miles - approx 250 000 kms and still going strong

Anyone clocked up more & what issues might be coming my way?

Gearbox failure at 39000 miles on mine, second engine fitted (also aaround 40,000 miles) going strong touch wood. however ive had endless other things wear out.
my mate also had his shock mount snap.

2000MKIIa on 38,000 miles, i have done about 30k of them. No real problems but i did re-engine the bike about 3 years ago despite the original enjun being strong/powerful but it drank oil so the low mileage replacement sips oil in comparison. Oh i did replace the starter relay. A very cheap boike to buy, run and maintain, i'd have anudder but it'd have to be a MKI.

Edited by wicklamulla, 15 May 2010 - 01:07 pm.

spyball alarm/immob, bluespot brake calipers and Stainless hoses, Fournales air adjustable shock with Remote Resevoir, forks raised 10mm thru yokes, racetech linear fork springs in 15 wt oil, Kappa wingrack/luggage, heated grips, Kedo handguards, dual heat controller to power heated jacket liner and or pants!!, Stebel 136DB horn, K&N air filter, colour matched Baglux tank cover (magnetic tank bag modified to fit cover), osram +50% headloight bulbs, headlight protector,"NitramSpecial" parking loight, tail light indicators all running on LED's & incorporate "Lite Buddies", MK7 Scottoiler fitted, taller screen, 2-2 stainless steel CCC's, Devil stainless down pipes. MKI Renntec engine crash bars & sump guard.
engine changed july 2007 on a dyno run it made 79.1BHP / Torque 59.9Had a brief flirtation with a 1999 MKIIa but it blew an exaust valve on the M5 so was sold on to be repaired.

I loike tay and hang sangwiches !

There are several carpe members with monster mileages on all the marques.

They'll run to over100k if looked after,

Mines done 95k miles, and if I'm honest I've not be overly kind to it.

Mr Henty was over some weeks back and was impressed with the state of the cams when we did the shims.

I think Celtic has over 120k miles...

The 850 is more prone to burning oil than the 9'er which results in a build up of carbon deposits.  The piston rings also wear more quickly on the 850.  That said, they're still perfectly useable at 60-70,000 miles, so long as oil usage isn't too excessive, and no reason why a top end refurb wouldn't last another 60-70,000 or more.

I'd deffo recommend you check the oil level on a very regular basis until you get some idea of usage.  Some can use a litre of oil or more per 1000 miles.

There was nothing wrong with the cams in dmmsta's bike at all. No pitting or scuffs or scoring, the usual signs of high mileage engine wear. Looking at the inside of the engine, it was very clean so he must have used reasonably decent oil and changed it more or less on time.

These injection engines are clean runners anyway and the ceramic liners in the bores must help with less oil contamination.

After seeing his engine insides at 95k plus, I've no worries keeping my bike until 120k or more, I'll be in an old folks home by then though.

The TDM is not a highly stressed, high revving design anyway, so it ought to last.

New tyre scrubbed and first proper proper roide of the year......what a complete blast.  Forget how mush fun TDM after using Dave for winter commute duties.

For me, the TDM is far greater that the sum of its components. :badgerrock:
