Hi All, how will I know (apart from the obvious) if the Scottoiler on my 900 is working??? If I'd have fitted it myself then I would have an Idea but as it came with the bike I don't know. The chain was really dry when I got it home and the split link was partially seized which I have since replaced with a riveted one (under the seat, thanks Chris) and really give it a good oiling since.  I have a brand new Scottoiler in me shed which I bought for my Fazer but never got round to fitting it but I'd sell it if the one on my TDM works.

Any ideas would help as I aint had one fitted before.

Thanks guys

There is a drip rate setting PTB.  Should be destructions on Snotoiler website, think its one drip per thirty seconds or summat.  If you cannae be rissoled to wait 30 seconds to see if it works, then crank it ooop.  Snotoiler site should also give you info on position of shnozzle and stuff too.

Hi Dapleb, thanks mate , The bike has a long squidgy tube under the seat anall which I think is full of oil so is that an add-on do you think?

if there are any air bubbles in the tubing it will prevent the oil flowing properly, best option would be to turn the knob all the way round to prime and wait for oil to flow from the pipe, then turn back down to get the correct drip rate like wot dappers so eloquently mentioned

Cheers Pantboy , much appreciated . Are they as good as they're made out to be as its the first bike I've had one on or would it be better to do the D.I.Y. method with spray after a long ride?? Seems like a lazy way out of maintainance in my eyes ( says he who bought one ) but thats cos me back is ferked honest.

Apart from a bubble in the pipe to stop it working, PTB, there is my experience of a pipe coming into contact with the can and melting closed.

PTB

if the scottoiler res has  been empty, make sure you turn it to the prime position, to prime the tube, cus it can take a long time to prime the empty tube,

or disconnect the outlet hose on the res and prime it manually (squirt oil down it with the bottle, lot quicker :good: )

not used a squidgy tube thing so cannot comment on that

Rich, worked fine when in my ownership, check the delivery tube in not blocked but turn it up then when flowing go down a click at a time to get a nice damp chain without fling onto the tyre.

I would like a scottoiler but need to save some more $ as just bought me PR2s.

Does anybody recommend buying 2nd hand from the bay of fleas?

Have bought three units over the years, all used.  It is an easy unit to clean up if there is old oil lodged anywhere so yes, buy second hand and save $'s.

Cheers from NZ
