steadily getting worse , when I go into a corner or long bend or roundabout the front end feels really vague and wants to stand up or even feels like it is going to slip under me , put new pads in a month ago and checked discs and they seemed ok , would new head bearings maybe help ,

I had a similar problem with my old mkIi, turns out the front tyre wore on the sides, triangulating the front tyre. Going around roundabouts the front felt gauge, like riding on snow or ice
cheers for that , I am taking the bike to a bike mechanic to get it checked out , also has a strange knock coming from underneath , I can feel it through the footpegs at slow speeds then disappears at speed , I had this on my rf900 and that was a seized link in the chain but I have checked the chain on the tdm and it is ok

Assuming the front tyre is not worn out you could try stiffening up the rear suspension.

Had the same thing on mine over the last couple of days, and when I checked the tyre pressure both were in the 20's
Really must get some of those valve caps that tell you when the pressure is below the preset!

they get nicked. Had some on the car, did them up with spanner, lasted all of three weeks round here, obviously the kids have spanners.

I am a weekend warrior, mostly due to work constraints But! i've managed to rack up 11,000 miles since MOT time in March :banana:But No matter how short of time I am on the morning of a rideout I always check my tyre pressures! I'm not trying to be a clever clogs, but I find if your consistent with your tyre pressures, you'll identify any change in your bikes handling in an instant!!!!

Get a digital pressure gauge, carry it with you. Analogue ones read high or low, very, very rarely read correct pressure.
Electronic, digital ones either work or not, no in between.
Always take cold reading, ie. before starting off.
