Hi all

Still new to my TDM 900 but loving it. I have a slight concern about 1st gear, I cant get a smooth take off from a standing start. As the clutch engages it feels ike it grabs and and makes for a jerky start. I have tried feathering the clutch, and engaging at low revs but the result is the same, just at the point of full engagment is grabs, bloody annoying.

Is it that 1st gear is long or is it just the way this bike is, or could it be a problem in the making?

She is 04 with 6500 miles on the clock

Thanks

  W

Chain adjustment?

Should be around 40-50mm IIRC

The 9er does tend to require more clutch slippage than most bikes.

Just checked the chain tension 20mm ,  Not a happy bunny. Re-set to 50mm and will see if this makes a difference

Good god, how long you you been riding it like that?
In fact, how long was the previous owner riding it like that?
Hope you haven't damaged the output shaft bearing.
Bet you notice a difference in suspension movement now.

That there is fighting talk. If I wasn't using my phone I would post up some pretty annoyed emoticons.
Thing is though, you know I can't stay mad at you.

The bike was serviced by Lings before I picked it up, and they had cleaned and oiled the chain so I guess they set it to that tension. Me thinks I wil give them a call so they are aware of whats gone on. At least then if it has caused damage I would have told them about the problem before the warrranty runs out. Cant wait to try it out, bloody rain.

I have to check mine every time I have a tyre put on.
I know they are doing me a favour by giving it a mini Mot but they keep forgetting not to adjust the chain.
I have taken to putting a removable sticker on the tank now.
