I've just fitted a Pinlock System to my Arai and thought I would share the experience.

I bought a replacement copy Arai visor in light smoke off Fleabay for £23 and as winter is on the way I though I'd see what all the fuss is about with the Pinlock system, having never used or seen one up close. I bought a clear Pinlock insert for £10 then discovered that you also need the pins for the insert to slide into unless you have a Pinlock ready visor. Doh!!

Anyway, I got the pins, £3 Fleabay again, and tuned into youtube for the instruction vid. Out came the drill, 5mm bit, felt pen, hole starter thingy, block of wood to drill onto and then removed the visor for the operation.

Success, all went smoothly and the insert is now in and working fully.

In the words of Tony the Tiger, THEY'RE GREAT!!

A comprehensive thumbs up and if you are considering doing this mod, don't hesitate, it's relatively straightforward, it's relatively cheap, and it works.

Had my pinlock visor hanging around for two years, I just might fit it now.

Been using pinlock for a couple of years, love it and works a treat in the winter. No steamed up visors for me..

I wouldn't be without a pinlock insert, have them for both my helmets, 4 in total, one each for a clear and tinted visor.

Never had to drill them myself as my helmets came pinlock ready.

I tried the version without a silicon bead but found them nowhere near as good as water got inbetween the the visor and insert and couldn't be removed without stopping, plus they suffered from misting between the insert and visor on very cold days.

Welcome to the 'Better Vision Clan'.

I'm always surprised when peeps don't have double glazing. It's a quantum shift (oh no, I'm turning transatlantic, must be the vapors), in chilly weather and/or excertive riding.

I've always had a antimist insert in my shoei (I assume it's pinlock; but it's the same-as anyway).

Being a '4 nails when 2 will do' type chap, I also use a respro foggy thingy:

:)

Yeah, I've done the IAM. And yeah, I recommend it (any so-called 'advanced training' come to that; not just IAM): A low cost training course based on the system used by the police, which is largely common sense once pointed out, making one smoother, quicker and safer. What's not to like? And why would one not want to tell others?  :hide:

I use the pinlock insert delivered OEM with my schuberth. Mixed experience for me. Great to stop fogging, but at night not so great, some stray reflexions from lights. Will purchase a plain visor for the summer I think

I find the same problem with my Schuberth, but on balance the system works really well.

...and there I was thinking that Pinlocks were like the emperors clothes....the visor is great and my glasses fog up like.......you know.

Mine was fitted by the dealer I bought the Shark Helmet from and I am overall very pleased. A small airflow over the glasses lens clears the vision pretty quickly.

Been using pinlock inserts for 4/5 years at least now and wouldn't be without them. I have both clear and tinted inserts and it is easy enough to swap between them.

One word of caution though, they are quite easy to scratch and I always exercise extreme care when giving them the occasional clean.

Had a late night out last night and so gave the Pinlock a really good try out.

Clear Pinlock on the inside of light tint visor.....super clear view, no misting.

I can't emphasise enough how pleased I am with this system.

Highly recommended.

I can't say I'm very satisfied with the Pinlock on my Shoei Air GT.

Anyone else with this helmet also having trouble with mist as if no Pinlock was there ?

Pinlock pins have a cam arrangement. You can turn them to make the insert a better/tighter fit

I suppose I did; it's been a while but there was a reason why I tried (and like) the foggy attachment.
