What a shite idea it was when they designed the oiling system on these bikes. I took mine out for a 200 odd mile blast a few weeks ago and on getting home noticed the oil was a bit low. So today I thought I had better stick some in before I go on our short boxing day run tomorrow. So i stuck some in. Then ran the bike for about 8 minutes and it still seemed low. So I added a little bit more, restarted the bike, Checked it again and now its got too much in. I can't believe what a faff checking and filling the oil up is on these bikes. I suppose it will sort itself out on the run tomorrow. I thought old BMW's had shite fillers. But they are 100% easier to fill than the ones on these bikes.

Interested in very very old bikes with the ocasional newish one thrown in.

I have to agree with you about the nightmare of adding oil. It would be a right ball ache having to do it while out on a run. Thing is, if yours is a 900, I thought the 9 didn't use any. Mine doesn't seem to.
It's a good job its hell of a bike, cos it does have a few quirks.

Anyhow enjoy your run tomorrow.

Mine is an 850. Why they didn't stick a window in the sump part where all the oil drains too once you stop running the bike I'll never know.

Coz that would be too easy !!

I look on the bright side, it give me a valid reason to disappear down the garage money pit to "keep an eye on the stupid oil level", I can be gone for hours !!  :rotflmmfao:

I never knew I had to shite into that hole....isn't that a bit awkward even on a BMW  ?

Sorry, it's a shite joke
